Former Dover midfielder Sammy Moore remains committed to the project at Faversham despite being linked with a Crabble return.

Deal-born Moore had two spells with Whites in his playing days while he also turned out in the Football League for the likes of AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient.

The 35-year-old has been one of the names suggested by Dover fans to replace manager Andy Hessenthaler, who this Thursday returned to League 2 Gillingham, having impressed at Isthmian Premier Potters Bar before he joined Town in November.

Despite the Lilywhites being bottom of Isthmian South East, 14 points from total safety, their boss - who is working with ex-Whites coach Darren Hare, Tim Dixon and assistant Darren Beale - intends to stay put.

He said: “I’ve had a lot of texts but I’m committed to this project at Faversham, and I want to be here for many years. The chairman [Gary Smart] knows that.

“The reason we’ve come to Kent was for a project and a team that we feel can go through the leagues. It’s an exciting project at Faversham.

“If we are successful this year in staying up, we move forward really quickly. If we don’t, then we will still be at Faversham and we’ll build to go and get back-to-back promotions.

“My aspirations are with Faversham and I want a long-term project, and I want [to make] long-term plans with Faversham. The chairman knows that and the chairman is ambitious.

“We’re losing games and we’re still enjoying it so it just shows that there are exciting times here.

“We’re really committed to Faversham and we want to build something special here. That’s what we plan to do.”

National League South outfit Dover, who have placed player-assistant manager Mitch Brundle and coach Mike Sandmann in joint-interim charge, are at basement boys Hungerford this Saturday.

Faversham, meanwhile, visit Littlehampton - still searching for their first league victory under Moore.
