Creditable draw not enough for Whites

CRAIG WILKINS: Goalscoring return
CRAIG WILKINS: Goalscoring return

Braintree Town 1 Dover Athletic 1

DOVER came from a goal down to claim a point at promotion-chasing Braintree on Saturday.

The home side took the lead on the half hour mark and there was little that could be done about the goal.

The ball was bouncing around on the edge of the box and fell to Andy Porter who hit a screamer of a shot into the top corner of Paul Hyde’s net.

But Whites were level four minutes later through Craig Wilkins, who was playing his first game for four months.

The equaliser came from a nice move started by Sam Vallance, who found Daniel Braithwaite and his low ball found Wilkins with the space to finish well.

The second half never really caught fire. Braintree brought on Rob Martin who began to cause Dover some problems but there was little end product.

Whites came closest to a winner when Anthony Hogg’s headed from a half cleared corner came back off the post.

A draw away from home at a promotion-chasing club is a good result, but it is only wins that can save Dover from the drop.
