Archery world cup comes to Kent

THE Archery World Cup tournament got underway at Dover on Thursday with the Great Britain team hoping to pick up some more medals in front of their home crowd.

Hundreds of people attended the opening ceremony at Dover Castle on Tuesday night, and the tournament itself is being held at the Duke of York’s School until Sunday.

A spectacular firework display was among the celebrations to mark the opening of the event at the Castle. The Kent Police Band provided some entertainment and the Sea Cadets also took part.

There were big cheers for the Great Britain team who will be hoping to pick up medals at the tournament in front of their home crowd. It’s their last chance to impress before the final which takes place in Dubai in November.

Dover Mayor Cllr Bob Markham, Mayoress Cllr Lyn Young, district council chairman Cllr Bernard Butcher and Kent County Council chairman Leyland Ridings were among the dignitaries who attended.
