Would-be bank robbers flee empty-handed

DETECTIVES are searching for two masked men, one armed with a gun, who tried to rob Lloyds Bank in Dover’s Market Square.

Police were called just after 9.15am on Saturday after a cleaner who was working at the bank was confronted by two men.

She was ordered to sit in a back room while the men carried out a search of the bank. They fled empty-handed.

Officers cordoned off the area after the incident while they examined the scene and carried out enquiries. They said that one of the men was believed to have had a handgun.

One of the offenders was described as a white man, aged in his 20s or 30s, 5ft 11in tall, dressed all in black with a black coat, black trousers, black balaclava and black gloves.

The other was said to be a thin man, 5ft 8in tall, wearing a light blue hooded top, balaclava, gloves and dark blue tracksuit bottoms, with pale blue trainers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Stuart Ward on 01304 240055, or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
