Woman crushed to death in docks

A WOMAN has been crushed to death under the wheels of a lorry at Dover's Eastern Docks.

It is the second fatal accident at the docks in two weeks involving people being crushed by lorries.

Police said the woman, who was 40 years old and from the Dover area, was found under the rear trailer of a lorry opposite berth six, having suffered crush injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy happened on Tuesday night. The woman was a passenger and her car was in a nearby lane where vehicles line up to board the ferries.

An investigation is under way and police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.

The accident happened at about 6.40pm as lorries were moving forward to board a ferry.

The tragedy happened two weeks to the day after a contractor was killed when he was crushed between a lorry and a crane, also at berth six.
