Warning over video cameras 'scam'

POLICE are warning residents in a Kent town to beware of a man offering video cameras for sale from the boot of his car. They say it could be a scam.

During the past few days a man has been seen offering the video cameras at the Tesco car park in the Whitfield area of Dover and the Russell Street car park in the town.

A police spokesman said: "He uses genuine video camera boxes but it is thought that when the buyer opens it, the box contains a bottle of water to make it weigh the same as a camera would."

Insp Paul Ludwig, of the Neighbourhood Policing Team in Dover, said: “As with any valuable item, we would always recommend using reputable retailers and to ensure you get a receipt.

He stressed: "Avoid buying things from people offering them on the street or in a pub.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 01304 240055. Alternatively, Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. This call is free, you don’t have to give your name and could be eligible for a reward.
