Switch-on of Dover Christmas Lights at Market Square and showing of Disney Jungle Book film

Dover's Christmas Lights switch-on takes place tomorrow (Saturday).

At 5pm Dover mayor Gordon Cowan will lead the countdown and the lights will then go on by remote control.

The switch-on at Market Square will be the finale of an afternoon's entertainment, organised by Dover Town Council, from 1pm.

This will include performances by professional Bollywood dancers with a session for members of the community to take part.

There will also be Christmas themed crazy golf and an escape room and funfair side stalls, all free.

Visitors can also visit festive indoor workshops and Santa and his sleigh will turn up

The afternoon will also have a Christmas roadshow with showcasing from local schools, colleges plus a storyteller and theatrical groups.

Finally the original Walt Disney Jungle Book cartoon film, from 1967, will be shown at the Silver Screen Cinema in Market Square.

The 1967 cartoon has been remade three times in live action or animated form.

The screenings are at 1pm and 2.45pm and seats need to be booked.

Cllr Cowan will also be in charge of the festive lights switch-on at the neighbouring St James' Retail and Leisure Park at 5.30pm.
