Toddler dies after falling into sea

The toddler who died after falling into the sea between Dover and Folkestone at the weekend was due to celebrate her third birthday next week.

Rebecca Hopper from Chatham died in hospital after the incident on Sunday at the Warren.

Her eight-month-old brother, Lewis, is recovering at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford.

Investigations into what happened are continuing. A pushchair is thought to have gone into the water.

The youngsters, together with two adults, were rescued by passers-by.

Rebecca was airlifted to a London hospital, where she later died.

Dover lifeboat was launched and the Folkestone Coastguard Rescue Team also attended.

A trained first-aider treated the children and paramedics administered resuscitation.

Coastguard officers secured a safe landing site for a helicopter to pick up the girl.
