Dover A2 taxi crash victim was returning from work, inquest hears

A man who died after a crash on the A2 was returning from work in a taxi, an inquest has heard.

Train conductor Martin Waters was in the back of a black Seat when it collided with a Range Rover in Jubilee Way, Dover, on September 2.

An inquest opening in Maidstone revealed the 57-year-old's cause of death was given as multiple injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 1.20am. The road was closed in both directions between the A20 at the Eastern Docks roundabout and the A258 at St Margaret's At Cliffe / Deal Roundabout.

A further three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Coroner Katrina Hepburn revealed Mr Waters, of Sandwich Road, Deal, died on impact from his injuries.

The inquest was suspended for 28 days pending a criminal investigation by Kent Police.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are appealing for witnesses or any motorists with dashcam footage to come forward.
