FORMER Dover school girl Joss Stone, who is causing a sensation as a soul singer, is appearing on Michael Parkinson's television chat show this Saturday (April 3).

Joss, who is only 16, has taken the soul charts across the world by storm with her debut CD The Soul Sessions.

Born in Dover, Joss went to St Mary's Primary School, and the family lived in Albert Road until she was eight, when they moved to Devon. Some of her relatives still live in the town.

She shot to fame after winning a Junior Star For A Night competition on BBC television.

Joss has made such an impression on the music industry, that Sir Elton John invited her to sing a duet with him at a post-Oscars party in Hollywood.

This Saturday, she will sing on the Parkinson programme, which is on BBC1 at 9.50pm.

Other guests include Nigel Harman (Dennis from EastEnders) and Rory Bremner. There will also be music from The Pet Shop Boys.

Her album has reached number three in the chart in Austin, Texas, and her video has proved so popular on the VH1 channel, it is being aired at least 50 times a week.

Joss is featured on the cover of a magazine in New Zealand and on the front cover of Billboard in the US.

She is being kept busy and is appearing in Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Austin, Houston, New Orleans and Memphis all before the end of April.
