A replica chariot, weaponry and combat demonstrations and gruesome surgical procedures were among the highlights of a Roman event at Dover Castle.

The four-horse chariot, called a Quadriga, was given to English Heritage by Channel 4’s Time Team.

Event manager Alysha Sargent said: "We were really pleased with how the event went and especially with the turnout.

"Around 3,500 people came along despite the poor weather."
