Recruitment agency to help immigration removal centre workers during uncertain time about jobs

A recruitment agency is coming to Dover this week to support workers of the Immigration Removal Centre who may be without a job.

New Appointments Group (NAG), a recruitment agency based at the Discovery Park in Sandwich, will be at the town council offices on Wednesday.

The event has been set up specifically for this group of employees, and will be available from 9am to 1pm.

It comes after the Mercury revealed last week that the Western Heights centre is being returned to the Ministry of Justice and will therefore be taken over by the National Offender Management Service next month.

It is understood that some jobs will be offered to workers in north Kent prisons, but this has not been confirmed.

Wednesday's event has been arranged by Cllr Peter Wallace with the support of the town council.

He said: “If the centre closes there are many people who are not guaranteed a job, either because they won’t be offered a job elsewhere in the prison service or they won’t be able to take up a new role in Rochester or Swale prisons.

"This is an event specially arranged for DIRC staff who understandably need some support to find new employment.

“The town council has recognised this is a special event and we need to be there to support everyone.

“I want to thank NAG for offering their services and the staff at the town council who have been so supportive in offering up the building for the event.”

For those who are not able to attend, NAG’s offices are open Monday to Friday and are available online at: www.newappointmentsgroup.co.uk.
