Pupils targeted by prowler in car

KENT Police are investigating several incidents where children have been approached by a man trying to lure them into his car.

Over the past two weeks, police have received reports of a number of incidents in the Buckland and Elms Vale areas of Dover. Children aged eight to 12 have been targeted.

Schools have issued letters to parents making them aware of the situation.

Police say that on all occasions children have done exactly the right thing and put into practice what they have learnt about dealing with strangers from their school and the police.

Det Insp Richard Collins said: "I would urge parents and children to be vigilant at all times. If you are approached by a suspicious stranger, then phone the police immediately."

The man is aged between his mid 20s and mid 30s, has an olive or swarthy complexion and a goatee beard.

He was wearing sunglasses, a lilac/purple T shirt, blue jeans and a wollen hat, and several items of jewellery such as an earring, thin necklace and ring on his wedding finger. He is not believed to have a local accent.
