Port of Dover expected to become congested after closure of Channel Tunnel due to lorry blaze

Kent Police warned ferry passengers and residents to expect traffic on the A20 after a lorry blaze at the Channel Tunnel on Saturday.

The fire broke out at the French end and was dealt with by French authorities.

The tunnel was closed for the rest of the day while the vehicle is recovered and the fumes cleared.

A tweet by Kent Police RPU said: "If you are travelling via the Port of Dover today, please allow extra time due to displaced Eurotunnel passengers using the ferries."

The Port of Dover has also tweeted: "Port is operating normally with traffic currently free flowing. Please allow extra time for your journey in case of increased traffic volumes."

Today (Sunday) Eurotunnel confirmed it was operating a reduced service.
