WORK has started on major road improvements on the main road through a Kent town.

The whole of the A20 in Dover from the Eastern Docks to the Western Heights roundabout is to be resurfaced during the next three months.

The project is being broken down into various sections, with single carriageway working during the day, and complete road closures at night.

A series of diversion routes will be brought into operation, depending on which section of the road is closed.

Some diversions are quite short, while others involve traffic having to use the A2, Whitfield Hill, the A256 through Dover, and the B2011 Folkestone Road to Capel to rejoin the A20.

Although assurances are being given that disruption will be kept to a minimum, there are bound to be delays to traffic, and cross-Channel ferry passengers are being advised to allow extra time to arrive at the port to catch their sailings.
