Morrisons' plans for B&Q site

Supermarket chain Morrisons is planning to open a store in Dover at the B&Q site in Charlton Green.

Morrisons is asking district councillors to approve extensions to the DIY store, a new front entrance, warehouse and retail floorspace.

There are also plans to provide another level with a mezzanine first floor.

In April a spokesman for the company said that although they were constantly reviewing their operations and would consider building a new store in the Dover area, there was nothing planned at that time.

On Tuesday, a Morrisons spokesman said: “We can confirm that Morrisons has submitted planning for a site on the Bridge Street Retail Park and plans to extend the current B&Q building to create a new Morrisons store.

“Work will begin in 2009, once B&Q have relocated to their new premises.”

Meanwhile, it is still not clear when B&Q will be moving from Charlton Green to their new store on the White Cliffs Business Park at Whitfield.

A spokesman said: “B&Q is committed to having a store in Dover and we are currently reviewing the opening date of our new store.”
