Harbour car plunge victim is named

A YOUNG man who died after crashing his car into the harbour in Dover has been identified.

The body of 20-year-old Carl Annett, of Melbourne Avenue, Dover, was recovered on the evening of Friday, December 21, after a crane driver reported seeing a car plunging at speed into the sea near to number one berth at 6pm.

The car was discovered 45 minutes later and Mr Annett’s body was found after a recovery operation involving Coastguards, Dover Lifeboat, divers and a specialist fire and rescue team from Whitstable was mounted.

Police spokesman Jon Green said an inquest into Mr Annett’s death had been opened and adjourned. "We are not treating the incident as suspicious," he added.
