WHEN former pupils decide to re-visit their old schools they usually walk in through the front door and chat with teachers they remember from their school days.

But former St Edmund’s School pupil Jez Griggs made his visit in style on Monday - he flew over the building with his colleagues from the Red Arrows!

Jez was finishing his three-year stint as a pilot with the world-famous aerobatic team.

Returning from their final display in Malta at the weekend, Jez and his colleagues called in at Manston to refuel, and then flew over St Edmund’s in formation, and trailing red and white and blue smoke.

All the current staff and pupils were out in the playground to watch as the planes flew in from the west and roared over the school complex.

They then disappeared from view behind Dover Castle and out to sea, before circling round to make another pass over the school and head off towards their base at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire.

It was while he was a schoolboy in Dover that Jez’s dream of becoming a pilot - and flying with the Red Arrows - began.

So he set his heart on making his last official flight with the team over Dover, and particularly over his old school.

Among those watching, and taking photos, was Jez’s father Mike Griggs, a former Dover photographer who had travelled from his home in Scotland to witness the event.
