The people of Dover “won’t have seen anything like it” when Premiership club, Crystal Palace play Dover Athletic at Crabble next month.

Those are the words from the club’s delighted chairman, Jim Parmenter, who had his wishes come true on Monday night when the south London side were picked to play Dover in the third round of the FA Cup.

Speaking to the Mercury, Mr Parmenter said: “It is great, fantastic.

“It is a marvellous draw for us, as we have had some difficult draws in the past. This is our most local Premiership club.

“It will be a great occasion for the town and I don’t think Dover will have seen anything like it.

“The town will have a great atmosphere and this game will put Dover on the map.”

It is hoped that the game will be televised, with a decision expected soon.

Mr Parmenter added: “If we can get it on the TV that will complete it for us.”

If the game is aired, Dover will receive £144,000 in prize money to add to its current total of £57,000 for getting this far in the competition.

Already, the club has been inundated with requests for tickets to the game that is expected to be a sell-out.

The chairman confirmed that prices will differ and that this will be discussed with Crystal Palace - a side which has 15,000 season ticket holders.

The club will be making more announcements about prices and accessibility by the end of this week.

Crabble can hold 5,745 fans and it has been confirmed that DAFC season ticket holders will get first preference.
