Clubbercise becomes latest fitness craze in Dover

Dancing in the dark with glow sticks to 90s club classics has become the latest fitness craze in Dover.

The hour-long Clubbercise sessions are led by mother-of-one Kerrie Stoner, 36, of Folkestone Road, and they are held three times a week.

It consists of a simple dance aerobic routine and has grown in popularity since November last year.

Mrs Stoner said: “Dover is going crazy for this latest dance fitness class. Numbers at my classes are growing and growing since I started teaching just one class a week, which has now increased to another two due to the high demand.”

In 2010, Mrs Stoner began doing Zumba, which is based around Latin dancing, in a bid to tone up.

Two years later she decided to train as an instructor and is now qualified in teaching adults and children.

Mrs Stoner feels that Clubbercise is the town’s most popular type of exercise class.

“The atmosphere at a Clubbercise class is like being at a nightclub, on a perfect night out,” she said.

“It is one hour of non-stop clubbing and obviously there is no alcohol involved, so no hangover in the morning.

“What could be better?”

The classes cater for all ages and abilities.

“I think one of the main advantages of it is that classes are done in the dark with disco lighting,” she said.

The sessions run on Mondays at 6.45pm at the Triangles Centre in Poulton Close, and on Tuesdays at 6.45pm at the Clarendon Community Centre in Belgrave Road.

The Thursday class is from 9.15am at the Tower Hamlets Scout hut in Astor Avenue.

Entry is £4.50 a time on a pay as you go basis.
