Household rubbish to be picked up at 5.30am to avoid worst of heatwave, says Dover District Council

Household waste collections will be ultra-early next week because of the soaring temperatures.

The dustmen will begin their rounds at 5.30am, next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the Dover, Deal and Sandwich area.

A Dove District Council spokesman explained: "This is so they can make the most of the cooler part of the morning. Should you choose to put your bins (including garden waste) out overnight, please secure them in a safe place."

Temperatures during the current heatwave are expected to go up as far as 36C in parts of Kent next week.
