Army called in to blow up suspicious car

Part of a Kent town was closed off and homes were evacuated when army experts carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious vehicle.

The car, which was parked near the Territorial Army Centre in London Road, Dover, could not be accounted for and the owner could not be traced.

London Road, between Beaconsfield Road and Cherry Tree Avenue, was sealed off, and traffic was diverted.

An army bomb disposal team was called in for the controlled explosion.
