KENT gymnast Roanna Hamilton won a silver medal at the Sport Acro national championships in Stoke-on-Trent.

The 12-year-old, who lives in Harold Road, Deal, finished second in the National Level 3 tumbling section.

Roanna, who was representing the south east of England at the championships, achieved a personal best score of 78.2 points for her three tumbles in the final, which featured 17 competitors from across the country.

Her mother Sue said: “We are really proud of her. Because Roanna doesn’t get much top competition in this area we didn’t really know what to expect at the nationals, and to finish second is just fantastic.”

The sports-loving youngster, who attends Barton Court School in Canterbury, has also been selected for the Kent girls’ Under-14 hockey squad for next season.
