Future of soccer boss in doubt

SIMON BRYANT: keeping his options open
SIMON BRYANT: keeping his options open

DEAL TOWN manager Simon Bryant takes his team to Slade Green on Saturday with a question mark hanging over his future at the Charles Ground.

Bryant was meeting club officials this week to discuss his and the club’s future following Deal’s elimination from the Kent League Premier Division Cup semi-finals at the hands of VCD Athletic on Saturday.

Bryant said: “I’m mentally drained and I need a break. It is too early to say what I will be doing next season but I have options available to me.

“From a wider point of view the club needs an awful lot done. At the moment Deal’s not an attractive place to come and play football. There’s no feelgood factor.”

David Saunders, the club vice-chairman, is to take over as chairman when Graham Johns steps down at the end of the season and Bryant believes that he will have a tough job on his hands unless more people show an interest in the club.

He said: “We need more help. The pitch is the worst it’s ever been and the clubhouse is falling down around our ears.

“It’s not a nice place to go for a drink, and the bar is an important source of revenue for the club. People are jumping in their cars straight after the game and going home.

“There aren’t enough local players in the team, but the town’s in a bit of a trough at the moment with the talent that is available.

“The standard in the Deal Sunday League is poor, but hopefully Deal Town Rangers will start pushing some younger players through.”
