Early blitz signals end for rugby club

Deal and Betteshanger’s final away league game in London 3 South East ended with a 50-27 defeat to Old Reigatians.

The result was settled in the first 10 minutes when the home side took a 21-point lead as the Old Boys’ skilful South African players made the difference.

Wesley Bull got the Lions’ first try when, after winning a penalty, they opted to kick to touch just short of the Old Reigations five-metre line.

From a resulting knock-on, a scrum was formed with the Lions driving over and Bull getting the touchdown.

Bull also scored the visitors’ second try, beating two defenders and grounding the ball under the posts. This score was quickly followed by another when, from a line-out, Martin Robinson found Dan Atkinson who drove over.

Lions winger Nathan Mitford picked up a loose ball on the halfway line before scoring under the posts and then gathered a kick from Robinson to find the corner.
