Deal's Kent League Cup hopes over

Vahid's injury didn't help Deal's cause

Deal 1 Holmesdale 0 (Holmesdale win 2-1 on aggregate)

Deal were knocked out of the Kent League Premier Division Cup at the second-round stage after failing to overturn Holmesdale’s 2-0 lead from the first leg, but manager Derek Hares drew plenty of encouragement from his side’s performance.

"That was only Holmesdale’s third defeat of the season," said Hares, "and I was very pleased with the way we played.

"Holmesdale are a good side, but we created plenty of chances and were a bit unfortunate to have two goals disallowed."

Striker Stuart Vahid had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half, but within 11 minutes of the start of the second half Deal took the lead when Shane Suter converted Danny Smith’s cross. The Bromley outfit were then fortunate not to concede a second soon after when Deal skipper Dave Bathgate had an effort ruled out for handball.

Deal then lost Vahid, who had to go to hospital to have three stitches inserted in a shin wound, and although substitute Kalvin Davies did nothing wrong when he came on, Town missed Vahid’s threat in the air.

Holmesdale play Faversham in the quarter-final.
