Sandwich Bowling Club member Gordon Charlton has been chosen as one of two reserves for England when they compete in the Home Internationals at Llandrindod Wells in Wales at the end of June.

The 49-year-old former national singles champion, who lives in Dover, earned his call-up after taking part in the Senior England trials at Shipton-on-Stour in Warwickshire on May 25.

Charlton will also be competing in the British pairs championship at Llandrindod Wells with Sandwich team-mate Colin Goldsmith, after they won the English pairs title last year.

Charlton said: "I obviously would have preferred to have been in the team, but someone could drop out and the fact I am playing with Colin in the British pairs means that I won’t be making a wasted journey to Wales no matter what happens with England."
