One of the town centre’s biggest eyesores will soon be given a new lease of life as JD Wetherspoon has confirmed it still plans to move to Deal.
The chain of pubs has confirmed its commitment to open in Queen Street and it is hoped the building - now clad in steel sheets for security reasons - could be in business by the spring.
Surveyors have been seen outside the property and passers-by were asking the same question: “Is Wetherspoon opening here?” They were all told yes.
The company’s spokesman Eddie Gershon confirmed: “ Wetherspoon is committed to opening a pub in Deal and is very keen to do so.
“At present the company has no on site date for work to start on the building and accordingly no opening date. A number of people involved in the project met at the site on Thursday to discuss the plans for the new pub.”
