The police have released an e-fit of a man they are looking to trace in connection with potential distraction burglaries in Deal.

The police said since Monday, April 4 officers have received several reports of suspicious callers who say they work for a window company.

They then advise the person who has opened the door that their double glazing needs replacing.

The callers are using the story to trick their way into people's homes and to steal cash or valuables, the police believe.

It is a known technique where one distracts the resident while the other person commits the crimes.

The man is described as white, aged in his late 40s or early 50s, with silver hair, and a silver goatee beard.

He was wearing a suit, spoke with a northern accent and was carrying a clip-board.

The man he was with is also white, aged 20 to 30 with mousey brown hair, and was wearing a blue jacket.

Police said the suspicious callers have offered to supply the windows and made excuses to enter people’s homes such as needing to use the toilet or asking for a glass of water.

None of the residents concerned have let the callers into their homes.

Det Cons Rob Goodban said: "Please share this message with elderly relatives and neighbours.

"If they have any doubts about a caller at all, don’t let them in and if suspicious, call Kent Police on 101.

"If in doubt, keep them out."
