Streetlight Storm turned on

An artist from Scotland has braved the freezing temperatures on Deal Pier to launch her Streetlight Storm project.

Katie Paterson, 28, started her installation on the calendar's shortest day and it can be visited until the end of January.

Now along the length of the pier the lights will flicker in time with lightning storms as they happen across the globe.

She said: "Deal Pier is the perfect place for Streetlight Storm and the lights stand out well."

Katie was commissioned by Vauxhall Motors to create an art work on the theme of re-inventing British classics and took the east Kent seaside town as her inspiration.

"I am interested in the way the ordinary and the otherworldly intersect. I hope the work's universal content will ignite the imaginatiion of many."
