Former Warden House pupil Rozzy Turner has said she has been overwhelmed with the public’s response since she stepped up to the mic on The Voice UK on Saturday.

The rock singer who now lives in Guildford, Surrey, working as a commercial contracts assistant in gas and oil, sang Bang Bang by Jessie J on the BBC talent show, impressing superstar coach will.i.am, who turned his chair at the last minute.

The Black Eyed Peas singer later referred to her as “spectacular”.

Rozzy, 33, said: “I was so amazed he spun. Of all the coaches I thought he was the one who wouldn’t spin.”

She added: “It was probably the hardest song I’ve ever sung. We weren’t allowed any backing vocals and I was so nervous.

"It was better than I thought when I watched it and it was great to see what the coaches were saying.”

Kaiser Chiefs front man Ricky Wilson, who Rozzy thought was the most likely to turn, said he didn’t turn because he already had a very similar singer on his team. But he did agree she was “right up his street”.

Since the episode aired, Rozzy has been inundated with positive feedback and congratulatory messages, even her parents, Richard and Janet, who live in London Road, Deal, said they have had lots of phone calls.

She said: “I’ve been completely overwhelmed. Even old school friends have sent me messages. For me that’s what it is all about.”

JLS star and presenter Marvin Humes was among the many who tweeted about Rozzy. He said: “@RozzyT big song! Lovely girl @IAmWill turned! So happy for you. Shout out to your mum and dad too!”

Marvin got on especially well with Janet Turner, who smothered him in kisses after her daughter got through!

Rozzy watched the show on Saturday in a Guildford pub, the King’s Head, with her friends, who had put on a party for her.

She said: “My friends were all in tears. They were so proud of me. That’s why I’m doing it, not for fame, but to give back to my friends and family who have supported me with singing for the past ten years.”

New friends she has made on the show also surprised her by turning up to the party.

Now a member of Team Will, Rozzy will go to the Battles stage, which will air on Saturday, February 28.
