The much anticipated second series was also filmed around Deal, as reported by Kentonline in December 2018 and last April and June. And landmarks like the town's iconic 1957 pier, the Zetland Arms at Kingsdown, and rape victim Laura Nielson's flat in The Marina are expected to feature again.

Written by Harry and Jack Williams, the storyline gripped viewers from the start as they tried to work out who was lying about an alleged date rape.

The series of six episodes culminated in a dramatic cliffhanger showing Andrew, played by Ioan Gruffudd, lying dead in the Kent marshes.

Viewers had just learned that teacher Laura Nielson, played by Joanne Froggatt, had been telling the truth about his attack at the end of a romantic meal at the restaurant at the end of Deal Pier.

Laura is likely to be the prime suspect.

But the new trailer reveals others are in the frame, with many others also having a vendetta against the high flying surgeon.

The ITV website's preview says the 2020 series picks up three weeks after damning evidence was uncovered proving Andrew Earlham sexually assaulted nineteen women.

"Laura Nielson can’t help feeling relieved by the news of his death. The last three weeks spent knowing Andrew was somewhere out there and missing have not been easy.

"Yet the seaside community is rocked when the case quickly becomes a murder investigation. Out of town officer DI Karen Renton (Katherine Kelly) is put in charge of the case, and together with DS Rory Maxwell (Danny Webb), they begin to unpack the events of the three crucial weeks leading up to Andrew’s death. The news casts a shadow over those who knew Andrew, all of whom, like Laura, are trying to move on with their lives.

"As the search to find Andrew’s killer gains momentum, the community will be forced to face up to the secrets of their recent past, secrets many of them hope will stay buried. Soon, Laura finds herself thrown deep in the mire of Andrew’s destructive path, and once again must fight to be believed."

The popular seafront establishment closed for the day to allow filming to take place.

Final scenes were shot in June 2019 along The Marina.

Presenter Alison Hammond was also spotted at the site. Crew told our reporter she had filmed an interview with the stars which will be aired on This Morning.

Parts of the first series were also filmed in Deal and Kingsdown during November 2016 and January 2017, with the town featuring in all six episodes.

Production teams had taken over two houses in the town during shooting, one towards the north end of The Marina, which is the home of Laura Nielson played by Froggatt and the other in Wellington Parade in Kingsdown, the home of her sister.

Other filming venues included Deal Beach Parlour and the Hope & Lane cafe in the High Street opposite St George’s Church.
