Police helicopter hovers over Deal Town Centre in search for man

A police helicopter was scrambled to help search for a man after he made off from patrols.

Officers were initially called to an assault in Worth this morning and later tried to detain a man in Union Road, Deal.

But when he got away, they drafted in a police helicopter to help.

The aircraft was seen circling above Deal and Worth for almost an hour.

He was arrested at 1.45pm near Nelson Street on suspicion of theft and assault.

A spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to a report of an assault at a property in Jubilee Road, Worth at around 8.50am on Monday 5 August 2019.

"Officers attended the address where a man, thought to have been involved, had left the scene.

"At around 10.30am police attempted to detain the man in Union Road, Deal but he made off from patrols.

"Officers arrested the man at around 1.45pm near Nelson Street on suspicion of theft and assault."
