Pedestrian is killed on main road

KENT Police are appealing for witnesses after a male pedestrian was struck by a car and killed.

The 39-year-old victim was walking along the A258 Deal Road near the Swingate Inn at 8.40pm on Boxing Day when he was struck by a red Peugeot 306 travelling from Deal in the direction of Dover.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. He lived locally but has not yet been named.

The driver of the Peugeot, a 22-year-old man from Canterbury, has been interviewed by police but has not been arrested.

Police media officer Jon Green said: "Inquiries are continuing and we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area just before the incident and may have seen the pedestrian, or the car."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
