Nicky Forster wants Dover Athletic players to step up to the challenge

Dover manager Nicky Forster has called for his players "to show a bit of mettle" after Whites suffered two home defeats in four days.

Saturday’s 4-0 humiliation by Staines was followed by a 1-0 reverse against Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday.

"That’s back-to-back defeats and I’m disappointed," Forster admitted. "In the first half there wasn’t the urgency you would expect from a team who are chasing fifth spot and we told them so.

"In the second half we were much improved but just couldn’t find the goal we needed.

"It’s time for the players to step up to the challenge and show a bit of mettle in their performances, which was sadly lacking in the first half (against Hampton)."

Forster (pictured) added: "After we had come off the pitch at Farnborough last week with a 2-0 win I thought we had set ourselves up nicely but unfortunately we have undone some of that good work in the last two games but now we have got to go again this Saturday."

Dover are at home again on Saturday to Boreham Wood, who beat Eastleigh 6-1 last weekend.

Forster is hoping midfielder Michael Corcoran will be available after missing Tuesday’s game, because his wife was about to give birth but striker Terry Dixon is still ruled out by his knee problem.
