Mother and baby held at knifepoint in store raid

Two men armed with knives threatened a store owner and his wife, who was holding their baby, as they stole cash and goods.

The raiders, who had hoods concealing their faces, threatened the couple at The Key Store in Ark Lane, Deal, on Monday evening.

A detective described the armed raiders as ruthless and said they had to be caught before they could hurt someone. Kent Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "The offenders demanded money and one of them grabbed the cash tray from the till, while the second took alcohol and tobacco.

"They ran from the store and it is believed made off in a black ‘N’ reg Fiat Cinquecento."

The men are described as both wearing coat type jackets with hoods, which had ‘storm’ flaps concealing the bottom half of their faces.

DS Mick Jones said: "I would like to speak to anyone who was in the Ark Lane area between 9pm and 10pm on Monday evening, who thinks they may have information which will help this investigation.

"These offenders were determined and ruthlessly threatened the owner’s wife while she was holding her baby. We need the help of the public to track down these men before they seriously hurt someone."

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Kent police on 01303 289180. Alternatively call Crimestoppers Hotline on 0800 555111.
