Kent rowers James Morgan and Alistair McKean won gold medals for Great Britain at the Varese International Adaptive Regatta in Italy.

They were in the mixed four crew which came first in the final in 3mins 33.50secs, finishing ahead of Italy and the Netherlands.

Morgan, a former deal Rowing Club captain, qualified for the adaptive rowing team following surgery on a long-term ankle problem, said: “I really enjoyed my first Paralympic class race. I was impressed with the professionalism of this squad and the back-up from GB Rowing, the coaching team and the EIS.

“There was a really good team spirit out there as the GB Olympic squad was training in Varese at the same time.”

Joining Morgan and McKean, who is a teacher at Canterbury High School, were Vicky Hansford and Naomi Riches.
