Housing protest

A battle to stop developers building homes on farmland on the outskirts of Deal is set to start again as a new set of plans has just been released.

Earlier this year and in 2010 villagers at Sholden protested against two separate proposals, one for up to 300 properties and a second for 238.

Petitions were launched and public meetings were held as Sholden Parish Council started its fight to halt the possible developments.

Now an outline planning application has been sent to the district council and also advertised in the Mercury’s public notices.

Parish council clerk Mary Shaw said: "On Saturday and Monday we have two events so residents can see Hillreed’s amendments to their controversial proposal to build hundreds of new homes on prime Grade 1 agricultural land in the area around Church Lane.

"We want people to see what the considerable changes are, compared to the first plans, look at the application and give comments to us."

Hillreed now want to build up to 230 homes and create a public open space, with access from Hancocks Field, Hunters Walk and Hyton Drive.

The latest plans from Hillreed can be seen at Sholden Village Hall on Saturday, July 9, from 10am until 1pm and again on Monday, July 11, from 6pm for two hours.
