The new high-speed train service from Dover has proved so popular the size of the trains is being doubled.

Cllr Paul Watkins revealed the news this week, saying he had been told by Vince Lucas, commercial director at Southeastern Trains.

“The service from Dover will be increased from six to 12 carriages to cope with the unexpected demand,” said Cllr Watkins.

“Dover’s numbers match the numbers at both Folkestone stops. Travellers from Deal make up these numbers as there is no stop at Deal.”

District councillor Roger Walkden says he hopes it will mean some people who currently live and work in London will consider moving to Dover.
