Give a little love to the homeless this Christmas with a shoe-box gift

Help a Deal woman in her bid to give a little love to the homeless this Christmas, by putting together a shoe box full of goods.

Jaymie Dunster of Downs Road, Deal is organising an appeal which she has branded the ‘Give a little love campaign’ in aid of the Catching Lives homeless shelter in Canterbury.

She would like to collect at least 50 boxes full of essential unisex goods including gloves, scarves, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lip balm, chocolate and other edible goods, for those who simply don’t even have shelter.

Miss Dunster said: “I missed the chance to do the children’s love in a box and so I thought what else can I do, and I thought of the homeless shelter.

“We all take things for granted and I know a lot of people struggle at Christmas but I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give something to those less fortunate, to those who haven’t got anything.”

The mum of one is also collecting treats such as biscuits and chews for homeless dogs. She said: “A lot of them have dogs so I wanted to collect for them as well.”

From advertising the campaign on Facebook and among friends and family, Miss Dunster has already received ten boxes.

She has asked the gifts to be presented in a wrapped box, with the lid separate, and to be handed into the East Kent Mercury office in Queen Street, Deal by Friday, December 19, alternatively to The Corner Cafe on Dover Road, Deal or directly to her by Saturday, December 20, in time for delivery.

The homeless shelter only requires 50 boxes but any left over items will be donated to Deal Foodbank.

Miss Dunster intends to create a video of the homeless people receiving the gifts so those who have given will be able to see who their boxes have helped.

She hopes this is just the beginning of the ‘Give a little love campaign’ and is already hoping to make it an annual appeal.
