Gate guardian at Parochial Primary to be rededicated

Crowds will gather at Parochial Primary School today (Tuesday) to witness the rededication of the school’s gate guardian.

The guardian consists of a Royal Marines badge which adorned a building in the North Barracks but was removed before the building being demolished.

It was relocated at the Parochial on the former Drill Field in 2001.

The monument had become overgrown and forgotten about until Year 6 at the school decided to run a project to restore and improve it.

The project included new paving, a mosaic depicting Corps colours and two information boards portraying the history of the Drill Field.

Governor Cllr Derek Murphy said: “The project has attracted a great deal of interest from both serving and ex marines who would have seen this on a daily basis during their training at Walmer.”

The rededication is at 11am. All are welcome.
