Dover boss Andy Hessenthaler has swooped to sign former Crystal Palace goalkeeper David Wilkinson, pictured, ahead of Saturday's FA Cup clash with Eastleigh.

With number one Lee Hook struggling for form and back-up John Whitehouse out for several weeks with a back problem, the Whites boss has brought in the former Dover loanee - who played during their Ryman League Premier Division-winning campaign last season in one of two previous spells at Crabble - on a one-month, non-contract basis.

Hessenthaler said: "We needed to do something with John out for a few weeks and Lee struggling. David knows the club and the fans know him from when he was here on loan and it was a good opportunity for us.

"He was released by Palace at the end of the season and has played for Forest Green, who apparently wanted to sign him but couldn't make it work financially. He's also played a few games for Truro City and has been training with Fulham."

Wilkinson's signing is the one piece of good news for Hessenthaler ahead of the game. Sammy Moore is definitely out (foot), while Olly Schulz and Jake Leberl (both calf) are doubts and Frannie Collin is struggling with a knee injury.
