Police investigate after van driver smashes into canopy at Walmer Train Station

A van driver smashed into the side of a train station, tore off part of an original door canopy and drove off.

Police are investigating the incident which happened at Walmer station at 1pm.

A witness, who doesn't wish to be named said: "It was really loud, I thought it was a bomb going off."

She was alone in seeing the driver get out, check the damage to the building and to his vehicle, before getting back in the cab of the plain Bedford sized van.

She added: "I was worried about the kids coming back from school so phoned the police. I had his registration number.

"The canopy was half hanging off and they've removed it now.

"And there was damage to his van too, he drove off with fiberglass showing."

No disruption to train services has been caused.
