Ben May scored a stoppage-time winner to boost Dover’s promotion hopes and sink Hornchurch at Crabble on Tuesday night.

The striker (pictured) had earlier missed a penalty but he made amends with a goal which clinched the Whites’ seventh win in their last nine games.

Dover are now just two points behind second-placed Salisbury City in Blue Square Bet South with eight games of the regular season remaining.

The home side were given the perfect opportunity to break the deadlock when May was fouled in the Hornchurch box. However, his spot-kick lacked power and Urchins keeper Joe Woolley saved easily.

Moses Ademola forced Woolley to make a fantastic save after the restart, before Hornchurch missed a penalty of their own, Martin Tuohy firing wide from 12 yards.

The visitors could still have gone ahead through Wayne Gray but Whites stopper Mitch walker made a crucial save with his foot.

With time running out, May won the game for Dover with a shot which went in via the post. Chris Kinnear’s side host Sutton United on Saturday.
