A lacklustre second half performance saw Dover throw away three points at home to Maidenhead and the chance to keep up with runaway league leaders Newport County.

Andy Hessenthaler's side were unable to finish off the visitors after Adam Birchall's second-minute strike got them off to a perfect start.

Birchall cooly rounded the goalkeeper to get the home side going, but it was to be a tale of frustration after that.

The Whites had chances to go into the break further ahead. Jon Wallis' speculative lob was tipped over the bar on nine minutes, while Frannie Collin also had a goal disallowed for offside five minutes later.

Dover's missed chances were punished soon after the break, when Maidenhead scored against the run of play. The home defence went to sleep allowing Sam Collins to run through unmarked before he lobbed goalkeeper Flitney from 20 yards.

The Crabble crowd of 851 tried to rally the home side into finding a winner, but only Olly Schultz and Shuan Welford looked like breaking through.

The draw means Dover slip out of the play-off places to seventh after wins for Bath City, Chelmsford City and Thurrock.
