Use coal or seasoned wood on fires says Deal firefighters after incident in Ripple

Firefighters have advised people to be vigilant about what material they use on their fire this Christmas, following an incident in Ripple last night.

A crew from Deal attended a chimney fire in Church Lane at about 9pm.

They used a chimney rod to extinguish the blaze within an hour.

Crew manager Jordan Sharp said: “They had had the chimney swept but they were burning material that wasn’t suitable.

“We would ask people to make sure they use coal or seasoned wood.”

Dover firefighters were called to a chimney fire in Wallett’s Court in St Margaret’s the same day.
