Care home conversion to go ahead

A former care home overlooking the sea could soon be converted into flats and a house, despite protests from neighbours.

Deal Town Council and the Deal Society also objected to the proposals, but the district council’s planning committee approved the scheme.

Cllr Trevor Bond said he sympathised with neighbours worried about their loss of privacy if the change of use went ahead, but described the developer as “amenable.”

The conversion of the detached property on The Marina, near the Harold Road junction, would create one three-bedroom house, one three-bedroom flat, four two-bedroom flats and four one-bedroom flats.

An extension and roof terraces are also included on the plans, as well as a parking area.
