Fire crews had been called out to Sondes Road, Deal, at 3.42am today.

They wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman for Kent Fire ad Rescue Service said: "Following the incident, firefighters are reminding people to take extra care when lighting candles and to ensure the flame is fully out before leaving the room, or going to bed.

"Candles should be placed in a suitable holder and on a non-flammable surface, well away from any flammable items such as curtains, bedding or clothing.

"Also, remember to have a working smoke alarm on each floor of your property and to test it regularly. "

Fire crews left the scene just over 45 minutes after being called out.
