Dover Athletic were unable to keep their excellent away run going after losing at Basingstoke in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.

Whites went into the game having won nine out of 11 leagues games on the road this season.

But they were undone by a 15-minute first-half hat-trick from Basingstoke’s Greg Draper.

Adam Birchall got Dover off to a flying start when he latched on to a long ball forward, chested it down and scored after three minutes.

But the home side hit back in impressive fashion through Draper's quickfire three goals.

A long goal-kick bounced on the six yard box and Draper lobbed the ball over Whites keeper Scott Flitney from a tight angle.

Draper then got behind the visiting defence to find himself one-on-one with Flitney and he scored again.

He then volleyed in Robert Rice’s throw-on for a third that left Dover with an uphill struggle in the second half.

But Whites, with the wind behind them, hit back early in the second half when Birchall scored at the second attempt.

Birchall then saw an effort cleared off the line from Nathan Smart, but the visitors were unable to snatch a point.
