A 63-year-old man, who was taken by air ambulance following an accident on Deal seafront yesterday, is believed to still be in hospital.

He was flown from Deal to Kings College Hospital in London, where he remains.

Reports to the Mercury suggest a cyclist was in collision with a pedestrian on the bend on Beach Street, outside the Royal Hotel.

Katie Morgan, an employee at the hotel, said: “I heard a really loud noise and it was the air ambulance on the beach.

“I believe it was a gentleman that was injured. He was wrapped up in a cling film type blanket.

“The paramedics were with him for quite a long time.”

Mrs Morgan, who has worked at the hotel for more than ten years has witnessed many accidents on the bend outside the building.

She added: “It’s deadly that corner.”

The road was closed while police protected the scene. It reopened at 1pm.
